The Arthurian Project is Live!

Dear Kings Wild Backers,

My new project is live on Kickstarter! Your support has always been crucial in seeing these decks come to life.

Since I started making playing cards, I spent time making lists of possible deck ideas. The King Authur Legend always made the list. I have been inspired by this legend since I was a child and now I am excited to share this deck with you.

The Authur Legend is full of rich characters and a wide range of lore. All this history makes it an ideal foundation for a playing card deck. Kings, Knights, Queens, Love, Betrayal, and Brotherhood are just a few of the themes that play out in this beloved story.

When I decided to capture the story of the Authur Legend, I then picked an art style that has been attractive to me for years. The art for this deck is a reflection of the Book of Kells. The Book of Kells is a beautiful hand drawn and written illuminated manuscript that tells the story of the four Gospels of the Bible. This book was written around the same time as the origins of the King Arthur story. This legend and art style are a perfect compliment to each other.

Follow my Kickstarter for the next 30 days to watch this deck come to life. Back the project to help make it a reality.

Dear Kings Wild Backers and Supporters,

This spring Kings Wild turns 4 years old. We couldn’t have made it this far without your incredible support and encouragement. Because of that, we would like to invite all of you to attend our 4 year Birthday Party. We realize not all of you are local to the Austin area but we wanted to extend an invite regardless. Please reply to our Facebook event here: https://tinyurl.com/zasg2gt

Update and Kings Wild Current Events.
over 8 years ago – Mon, Sep 19, 2016 at 06:11:23 PM

Hi everyone,

I have been dealing with a lot of things both personally and professionally over the last year. I prefer not to go into the personal things yet again as you probably remember the update I wrote back in December, but it goes without saying that it is not something you bounce back from right away.

Professionally, you may know of the issues if you are a long-time supporter of my work. While I’ve had minor hiccups in the past, the major things started with the Emerald Tally Ho project and forward. I don’t think it’ll do anyone any good to go over the issues that’s been, but know that I’m aware of them. Production problems led to delays, delays led to too much work at the same time, and I ended up trying to handle four different projects all at once, while at the same time handling my daily work with 4 St James and trying to also be there for my family. All of this came crashing down eventually. It’s felt like none of the latest projects have gone as planned, and it’s been a huge stress.

Including the latest one. A simple thing but something that should not have been overlooked, and with the previous problems still fresh in mind feels even worse.

When I was writing up the presentation of the Crazy 8’s Kickstarter project, I copied the deck information from a previous campaign and edited it, however I missed to remove a line that said the LTD edition was going to have an embossed tuck case. My intention was never to do an embossed tuck case for either version as that would not work well with the chalkboard style of the lines and illustrations of the Crazy 8’s. (It’s in lack of better words a ”scratchy” style and embossing it would look like a small mess.) I went ahead and had both editions printed as planned, and they arrived just recently at KW headquarters ready to be fulfilled. It wasn’t until after this that the mistake in the KS presentation was noticed.

As I missed to remove this part of the information, there might be backers who pledged under the assumption that the LTD tuck case would have embossing, and the last thing I want is to send out a product to someone who feels like they aren’t receiving what they were promised. I hate the idea of disappointing someone who has supported my art. I can’t change the tucks after the fact (and I would not want to as that would make the final product less than it is), but I can and I will offer a refund to anyone who feels that they want one instead of their LTD decks. Anyone who wants to take me up on this offer can send an e-mail about it to [email protected] and he will set things in motion. To the rest of you, I am truly sorry for the mistake made and I hope that you will love the decks as much as I do despite this. To those of you who choose to not get the refund for the LTD decks, we will include a signed Standard Edition with every package as a bonus. We will hold off on beginning fulfillment of LTD orders until later this week to give everyone a chance to contact us if they opt for a refund.

The future of Kings Wild Project With all this said, I have some more things to cover. It’s become more and more obvious to me that handling fulfillment, the creative work, responding to e-mails, proofing, communicating with backers and all the other things that go into this is more than I can handle on my own. I’ve forced myself to take a step back to give myself a chance to reflect and regroup. That is why I went ahead and brought Marcus aboard a while back, and that is also why just a few days ago I brought in Delanie. My strength lies in envisioning ideas, and making them come to life, and that is what I need to focus on.

Delanie will be a strong addition to Kings Wild Project. She is going to be managing long-term plans and marketing, handling administrative tasks, keeping me on point and focused, and will also be taking over fulfillment. Her strengths will complement KW immensely. Marcus will continue to help me with creative concepts, general advice and handle support e-mails among other things.

My (our) goal is to get on top of things again. That means more updates during projects in general, always updates about changes made to keep you guys informed, and avoiding mistakes caused by KW. We have no control over how things go with the printers, but we can control our own work.

Kings Wild Project is my greatest passion, and I want to see it live up to its potential and beyond. We have great things planned for the future, and I hope you will decide to stay with us going forward.

Thanks everyone, Jackson

I'd also give a special thank you to Anthony Ingrassia for the incredible photos. I think Anthony takes the best playing card photos in the universe and multiverse.
